The annual Manchester Caribbean Carnival 2013, will take place this year at Platt Fields park, Fallowfied on Saturday 10th August 2013
Usually the Caribbean Carnival is held at Alexandra park, Moss Side/ Whalley Range since it started back in 1972. Alexandra Park undergoing a £2.2.millon regeneration, Platt Fields park will be a temporary site for this year’s Caribbean Carnival.
The Caribbean procession brings traffic to a halt; as dancer display their big colourful costumes with the sounds of Reggae, Calypso and Soca Explode through powerful sound systems.
The Procession will still start at Alexandra Park, ending at Platt Fields Park. Yarburgh Street, will be missed of this years Procession route.
The Carnival is always held over a two-day period from Saturday till Sunday. This year it will only be single day event. Hopefully by next year the Carnival will be back at its main home of Alexandra Park where we can continue to have our two days of Caribbean culture.
Speaking with Mickey B, the Carnival production manager he said
“Even though we will miss the Carnival not being held in Alexandra Park. We are still hoping that this year will be a great event. People from all over usually attend the Carnival and we hope to have all your support and enthusiasm to make this day a success for Manchester’s Caribbean Community”.
