Police appeal following hammer attack in Swinton

Greater Manchester Police are appealing for witnesses following an attack outside of a Asda in Wellington Road, Swinton, before 4pm this afternoon which saw a male chased into a carpark and brutally beaten with what police suspect to be a hammer.

The North West Ambulance Service say that the so-far unidentified male suffered serious head injuries and has been taken to hospital. A spokesman for GMP issued the following statement: “We were called to Wellington Road in Swinton at 15.48pm. “A male was chased to that location and assaulted with what appears to be a hammer.”

The attack comes a week after staff at a nearby B&M store were pounced on by a gang of six masked men armed with sledgehammers and machetes.

The assailant had fled the scene of the attack prior to emergency services arriving. Greater Manchester Police are asking that anyone with information regarding todays attack to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
