Trafford Conservatives have praised school exam successes which have once again shown that the borough is top class with outstanding results above the national average.
This year, pupils sat the new more rigorous, gold-standard GCSEs for the first time in 20 subjects. These new qualifications are on a par with the best performing education systems in the world, better preparing students for the world of work and further study.
Councillor Michael Whetton, Shadow Executive Member for Children’s Services said:
“Pupils across the borough should be immensely proud of their achievements and I am pleased that along with my fellow Conservative councillors we helped to support and drive the outstanding education system we have here.
“Due to the Conservatives’ reforms and the hard work of teachers, education standards are rising in our schools. All children can achieve their potential and now have even more opportunities available to them.
“Whatever they choose to do next – whether it is saying at school, going to college, or starting an apprenticeship – the qualifications gained this year will give them a solid base of knowledge and skills that they can build on.”
