NewsTraffordNew chapter for Timperley library

The official opening of Timperley’s new library is to be met with a chorus of approval.

Representatives from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will be on hand during the opening from 10am on Tuesday 22 March.

The musicians are leading on one of the cultural offers around the UEFA Women’s Euros competition. They will be working with local groups and communities to help develop a Trafford anthem for the opening match, which takes place at Old Trafford on 6 July.

And if you come along to the library’s opening, you could even help with the anthem’s formation!

Councillor Brophy

Councillor Jane Brophy Said: “Timperley Library is a fantastic facility and it’s long overdue. Liberal Democrat councillors have worked with the staff to get the new building ready and we can’t wait for residents to be able to make use of the Library and excellent meeting rooms.”

The Mayor of Trafford, Cllr Laurence Walsh, will be leading the opening ceremony along with children from Broomwood Primary School.

Cllr Walsh said: “I’m very excited about the new library. It’s a wonderful new facility and will the perfect place to relax and discover the latest exciting stories.

“We often forget just how amazing libraries are. I often go to libraries, get myself lost in a book and end up forgetting what time it is! Anyone can join and gain access to the most fantastic books. There’s ebooks and audio books available too. And it’s all free.”

Computer facilities, including printing and photocopying, are also available at the library, on Stockport Road.

Since 2018, there is no longer any fine for books being returned late to encourage more people to use their local library.

Cllr Walsh added: “This will be a wonderful community facility for the people of Timperley and I am delighted to have been asked to open it.”
