Manchester Arndale Centre evacuated as police respond to ‘major incident’

Update: Police have confirmed a man has been arrested following reports that he had been carrying a knife. No injuries have been reported.

Staff have been evacuated from the Arndale Centre in central Manchester in what is being described as a ‘major incident’ – a week after five patients were taken to hospital following multiple stabbings at the shopping centre on Friday, October 11.

“The Hive”, the official Manchester Arndale app that updates retailers with important messages from the shopping centre’s management has instructed all workers inside the complex to evacuate immediately as a “Code 555 Major Incident” is in progress.

Passersby and residents living close to the Arndale Centre have shared footage on social media of police and incident response vehicles rushing to the scene.

Greater Manchester Police have now confirmed that a man has been arrested and taken into custody for questioning following reports he had a knife. There are no reported injuries.
