Stockport Conservative Group welcome the news that residents across Stockport Borough will have their say on proposals for unprecedented development of new homes on brownfield and even some greenbelt sites, also known as the Local Plan.

A consultation with local residents had been planned to take place starting 30th September 2022 but this was scrapped after the ruling Liberal Democrat Group decided to pause indefinitely.

A motion presented to Full Council on Thursday 6th October committing Stockport Council to initiate an 8-week consultation by 28th January 2023.

Cllr. Mike Hurleston, Conservative Group Leader said “I am pleased that, despite efforts by Liberal Democrats in the town hall, local residents will get to have their say on where homes are built in our borough.

“We must listen to the wishes of local people, building the new homes we need on available and underused brownfield land, and protect our precious greenbelt for future generations. Your local Conservative team will always stand up for local residents.”
