In the UK, a grave environmental concern has taken root in the past year following a surge in the careless disposal of single-use vapes.
Research conducted by the BBC shows that an astonishing five million disposable vapes are recklessly discarded on a weekly basis, a staggering fourfold increase compared to the previous year. More disconcerting still, the study revealed that a mere 17% of vape users adhere to responsible recycling practices.

Chris Kelly, CEO of Phoenix 2 Retail, said: “We know everyone sees the colossal impact single-use vapes have on the environment, which is why we have been working on a 360-degree recycling solution for retailers for several months. Phoenix 2 Retail is set to roll out over 200 recycling units this month, followed by a further 5,000 units by the end of the year, subject to retailer agreements. We aim to reach all 15,000 retailers by the following year, ensuring at least one recycling unit per store. This step is part of our company’s ongoing efforts to tackle the issue of improper vape disposal”.

By making recycling units accessible and convenient, the company strongly believes that more vapers will be willing to recycle their vapes properly.
Phoenix 2 Retail has partnered with a registered waste management company to ensure the proper disposal of the collected vapes.
The initiative is simple for retailers; once the recycling units are full, the waste management company collects them, and an empty unit is placed in its stead. All vapes collected through these units are then recycled here in the UK, ensuring that every unit is disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner. Through their partnership with a registered waste management company, Phoenix 2 Retail demonstrates its commitment to a responsible, sustainable and proactive approach towards greener vape disposal. The partnership ensures that all vapes collected through these units are recycled, reducing the environmental impact of non-biodegradable waste.
