Local resident and community advocate Kirsty Downie has been announced as the Independent Your Party candidate for the Barton and Winton Ward by-election, set to take place on 22nd April.
Born and bred in Barton, Kirsty Downie is standing to give a strong, independent voice to local people and to fight for policies rooted in fairness, community, and socialist principles. Her campaign is focused on addressing the real challenges facing residents and delivering meaningful change at a local level.
Kirsty’s key pledges include:
• More council housing and rent controls to tackle the housing crisis and ensure secure, affordable homes for all
• Safer streets and better transport, improving community safety and accessibility
• Inclusive education, ensuring every child has the support and opportunities they deserve
• Protection of green spaces, safeguarding local environments for future generations
• Action on poverty, with practical measures to support those most in need
