Oliver Carroll has been selected as the Conservative Party candidate for Altrincham and Sale West at the next General Election.

He will be odds-on to replace Sir Graham Brady as Altrincham and Sale West’s MP at the next election.

Sir Graham has announced he is stepping down at the next election having served as the constituency’s MP since 1997.

Oliver is 29 and was born and raised in Hale Barns and went to Altrincham Grammar School for Boys.

He then went on to read law at Oxford and is currently dividing his time between London, where his job as a lawyer is and Hale Barns, where his family still live.

He said he’s regularly instructed by FTSE 100 businesses and has worked for the Department for International Trade on the negotiation of the country’s first post-Brexit trade agreements as well as the Vaccines Taskforce on the procurement and roll-out of the Covid-19 vaccines, and the legislative approval for Sizewell C.

Outside of work he volunteers as a Citizens Advice Bureau advisor, assisting members of the public with consumer disputes.

Speaking after the selection, Oliver said: “I am delighted to be selected as the Conservative candidate in my home town.

“Sir Graham has done, and continues, to do an excellent job as our area’s MP and I will do everything I can to make sure I can step into his shoes at the next General Election.

“I know people living and working here want an MP to get on with the job and deliver for them on the Government’s plans.

“The people’s priorities in Altrincham and Sale West are the Government’s priorities, and Rishi Sunak has my support as he strives to halve inflation, grow the economy, reduce debt, cut waiting lists and stop the boats.

“I have a positive vision for people here: we must protect our grammar school system, protect our green spaces, and hold Labour to account for their failures.

“Public transport for our residents is poor because of Trafford Labour’s mismanagement, and a Greater Manchester Mayor in Andy Burnham who is more interested in his media profile than doing his job. His war on commuters travelling in and out of Manchester manages to be both ecologically self-defeating, and economically counterproductive.

“I am fighting to oppose an inappropriate housing development in the Timperley Wedge through an ill thought-through “Spaces for Everyone” plan, lacking in adequate provision of social infrastructure.

“We want proper housing development to give our young people the promise of building their lives in our area – but it must be the right development, accompanied by the requisite school places, GP surgeries, and community resources to make sure we build not just housing, but communities of the future.

“Until the next election, I will be working hard to show people here I am the right person to become their MP and help improve the lives of families right across the constituency.

“Altrincham and Sale West needs a Conservative MP fight for their interests, to help improve lives in our community.”
